Climate

The weather in good old Germany is highly ‘capricious’ and sometimes really surprising, for its tourists as well as for its inhabitants. On any day it can be cold or warm, sunny or rainy, windy or calm, or a mix thereof. What means for the meteorologists a lack of stability on colliding maritime and continental masses, means for the tourists just to pack a flexible wardrobe. Best time for hiking tours is April to October. During this time the temperatures and the weather conditions in general are the most agreeable and inviting ones.

In summer we can talk about a most stable weather around 25¢ªC. Nevertheless humidity is part of it and in the later afternoon thunderstorms sometimes can happen. German spring is beautiful, though it can sometimes be slow to arrive. Long summer periods might keep beer gardens open even trough the time of October, but the harsh winter months come soon and bring temperatures below 0¢ªC during several weeks. In higher regions, snowfall is not a rare phenomena starting in November.

Dividing the country into three main parts, it can be truly said that the north-western and the coastal Germany have a maritime climate caused by warm western winds from the North Sea, characterized by warm summers and mild winters. The middle part, or in other words the further inland, is characterized as continental, marked by greater diurnal and seasonal variations in temperature. Summers are warmer and winters colder. Further there are the Alpine regions in the south with its so called mountain climate. It shows lower temperatures all year because of its higher altitudes.
